This Bible study devotional covers 1 Samuel 16-17. This passage marks the beginning of both Saul’s fall and David’s rise to power. David is anointed and proves that God is with him by defeating Goliath. While Saul proves God has left him when he hides in his tent, tortured by evil spirits. As always, we are committed to showing you how to see the good news of the Gospel in every passage of Scripture. In 1 Samuel 16-17 we see the type of Savior and salvation we need. There was nothing impressive about Jesus’ physical appearance, but he bravely went to battle against the rulers, principalities, and powers, trusting God even when it meant his life. Filled with God’s Spirit and dressed in grave clothes rather than armor, Jesus battles death and wins.
