This Bible study devotional covers 1 Samuel 8-12. In this passage, Israel wants to do away with God’s system of tribal leadership and become more like the monarchies they see around them. Ultimately this is a rejection not of a form of government, but of God’s leadership. As always, we are committed to showing you how to see the good news of the Gospel in every passage of Scripture. In 1 Samuel 8-12 we see that even in our rejection of God as King, God still acts like one. Jesus takes the throne, even when it means being crowned with thorns. Just like Saul’s coronation, Jesus’ cross is both our rejection of God as King and the moment we are rescued from our enemies.
